The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites applications for the Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination 2026 to fill 80 vacancies in the prestigious Indian Forest Service.

The Indian Forest Service is one of the premier All India Services responsible for forest conservation, wildlife protection, environmental management, and implementation of national forestry policies. This role offers a distinguished career in public service with leadership responsibilities across India.

Post Details

Vacancies are distributed across UR, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS categories as per Government of India reservation rules.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university.

• The degree must include at least one of the following subjects:

  • Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science

  • Botany

  • Chemistry

  • Geology

  • Mathematics

  • Physics

  • Statistics

  • Zoology

  • Agriculture

  • Forestry

  • Engineering

Final-year students may apply provisionally, subject to fulfilling eligibility requirements before the Main Examination.

Salary Details

Selected candidates will be appointed under Group A Central Government service rules.

Salary will be as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix (starting at Level 10 and above), along with:

• Dearness Allowance (DA)

• House Rent Allowance (HRA)

• Travel Allowance (TA)

• Other admissible government benefits

Age Limit

• Minimum Age: 21 years

• Maximum Age: 32 years
  (As on 01 August 2026)

Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms:

• OBC: 3 years

• SC/ST: 5 years

• PwBD and other eligible categories: As per rules
